The Bassless Trio is an innovative classical/contemporary chamber ensemble featuring world-class musicians who explore traditional and new music, untapped instrumentations and genres. The soprano voice of Lisa Williamson, cello of Cara Cheung and saxophone of Joshua Thomas combine in an unexpected way, bringing fun and thoughtful music to the stage.

Structured improv games provide the foundation for a creative, fun and unpredictable afternoon of collaborative dramatic play.

FOCUS Teen Improv is a group of Shoreline kids, ages 12-16, who study improvisational theater with Lara Morton, founder/director of Handful Productions of Madison. Lara is passionate about the power of theater to transform lives and has been working professionally in theater for more than 20 years.

From Ellington to madrigals to Sting, the Doobies and doo-wop, plus a dose of comedy and satire, this men’s a cappella singing group does it all—defying audiences’ preconceived ideas of what an a cappella show should be.

Artist Bio

The Conn Artists is a highly acclaimed, seven-member a cappella singing group based in Fairfield County, Connecticut. It’s a genre-defying ensemble that, in spite of the fact that none of its members are professional musicians, placed second in the New York regionals of the national a cappella competition Harmony Sweepstakes. The members are Martin Brayboy, bass; Gary Schanzer, really low bass; John Carlson and Doug Rollins, baritones; and Charlie Dear, Peter Sachner and Dave Callahan, tenors. Each of them sang with one of the top collegiate a cappella groups, including the Princeton Tigertones, Amherst Zumbyes, Williams Ephlats, Trinity BMOC and New Hampshire Gentlemen. Madison Lyric Stage co-founders Marc Deaton and John Johmann, plus members of the company’s Emerging Artists Program, will perform selections from the musicals Sunday in the Park with George, Parade, The Secret Garden, Pippin and Phantom of the Opera; from the operas Der Rosenkavalier, Pearlfishers and Madama Butterfly; and from the company’s upcoming October production of Hansel and Gretel.

Artist Bio

Madison Lyric Stage is a professional theater company that presents high-quality entertainment from the worlds of opera, musical theater and drama. Founder and Artistic Director Marc Deaton is a producer, director, playwright, actor and tenor who has appeared with leading opera companies and orchestras throughout the world. His performance in the title role of Tristan und Isolde, recorded with the Bulgarian Festival Orchestra, was released by Centaur Records, as was his solo CD of excerpts from Wagner recorded with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra. He has played key musical theatre roles including Che in Evita, Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, Tony in West Side Story and the title role in Candide on leading stages in Europe. Lou will perform Out of Rushmore’s Shadow, based on his quest to gain recognition for his grandfather, Luigi, the chief carver of the Mount Rushmore monument.

Artist Bio

Actor, singer and storyteller Lou Del Bianco has created a dozen one-man historical, cultural and scientific shows, depicting the lives and achievements of the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Hans Christian Andersen and Frank Sinatra. His shows convey folk tales, myths and fables from around the world; native American philosophy; stories of the constellations and more. His six recordings have been featured in the New York Times, Billboard Magazine and other publications. His latest book is Out of Rushmore’s Shadow, about his grandfather’s work as chief carver of the Mount Rushmore national monument.

Be the music in this all-ages workshop/class/celebration of rhythm, drumming and improvisation led by Peter Hawes, percussionist/teacher and team-building facilitator. We’ll use voice, body percussion, movement, drums and other instruments to make a joyous, heartfelt and synchronous racket on the Guilford Green—while learning about the rhythmic traditions and music of West Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and elsewhere. Instruments provided; bring your own if you’d like. Drums and percussion instruments provided, or bring your own.

Artist Bio

Peter has studied West and North African, Middle Eastern, Japanese and central Asian drumming, as well as music improvisation, and is a certified Music for People teacher of improvisation as a mode of self-expression, creativity, communication and collaboration. A former member of Framework Percussion Ensemble, he’s led community drumming circles throughout the Northeast and facilitated drumming- and improvisation-based team-building programs for USAA Financial Services, Silicon Graphics, Oppenheimer Funds and the American Society for Training and Development. He’s taught at Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, Rowe Camp and Conference Center, and Norwalk Community College.

Artist Bio

A mindreader and licensed hypnotist with scores of corporate and educational clients, Keith Zalinger is also an acclaimed paranormal entertainer. He divines the thoughts of audience members, answers their personal questions and predicts their actions. A recipient of Gigmasters’ best-of awards for 2012-2018, he is the author of Palmistry, Love and You; Learn the Tarot (in Three Simple Steps) and Practical Astrology.

Susan will hold a staged reading of her full play Guenevere, which she completed with the support of a 2019 Guilford Performing Arts Festival Artists’ Award. The work uses the King Arthur legend to illuminate the struggle for power and control between women and their closest male friends, in love, at work and at play.

Artist Bio

Susan Cinoman is a playwright and screenwriter who has written for the ABC television shows The Goldbergs and Schooled. Her one-act plays Cinoman and Rebeck and Gin and Bitters were produced off-Broadway at the Miranda Theatre in New York. Her short play Cat and Dog Watch the Tonys was staged at the Stella Adler Theatre in Los Angeles. Susan was the recipient of the inaugural Guilford Performing Arts Festival Artists’ Award in drama.

Master storyteller Jonathan Kruk presents a theatrical and highly interactive performance of classic and original Faerie tales featuring varied voices, characterization and period garb.

Artist Bio

Jonathan Kruk grew up on tall tales and daydreams. He acted in a teen travel camp, told stories to his younger brother, and in 1989 turned his passion into a career, leaving a job watering Henry Kissinger’s office plants to become storyteller in residence at Freeport Schools on Long Island. Since then, he’s performed at hundreds of schools, libraries, historic sites and festivals, and has appeared on The Today Show, the Travel Channel and BBC. Probably best known for his The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and A Christmas Carol shows, he performs work whose subjects span Greek mythology, regional history, Medieval stories and Hudson Valley lore. His newest book is Legends and Lore of the Hudson Highlands.

The Argyle Sax Quartet performs a repertoire that spans genres from classical, jazz and waltzes to contemporary music and movie themes. Comprised of soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, the ensemble highlights the instrument’s wide range and tonality.

A contemporary pop musical created by high-school and middle-school actors, singers and musicians, Just One Sip is a coming-of-age-story with humor, romance and drama, set in a local coffee shop.

Artist Bio

Writers Gaby Onorati and Carlin Steere, sophomores at Madison’s Daniel Hand High School, are interested in the different ways kids mature into young adults. Just One Sip, their original, 17-song musical, had its first public stage reading in Guilford in 2018, and it’s been reworked for performance at the festival.

NBYT will perform a short Cinderella story, Estrellita de Oro, followed by acting games in which performers and the audience interact to explore the characters just seen on stage. Based on a Mexican folktale, Estrellita de Oro (Little Gold Star) has familiar elements to the Cinderella story that we all know—but with fun twists and changes!

NBYT is a professionally run community and educational children’s theater company based in Berlin, Connecticut. Inviting kids from all communities and with all levels of ability and experience, it was named by Connecticut Magazine as Connecticut’s Best Children’s Theater in 2017. NBYT enriches lives by encouraging creative thinking and collaborative teamwork, and developing self-confidence, social and academic skills through involvement in high-quality, low-cost programs in the creative arts.
