Almost as soon as the Skyler Hagner Nonet left the stage after premiering Hagner’s jazz suite Invisible Cities at the festival in September, they headed into the studio to start recording it. Skyler tells us the band finished recording in the fall and that he’s hoping to release the music as an album late this summer, possibly supported by a mini-tour.

In the meantime, he’s working on a companion piece to Invisible Cities with a similar concept. “I’ve been shopping around the idea of a ‘Sacred Spaces’ suite,” he says, “paying homage to some of the outdoor places that provided refuge and comfort throughout the pandemic.”

The nonet was the festival’s 2020 Artists’ Awards recipient in Music.
