The Guilford Performing Arts Festival Artists’ Awards help support the livelihoods of Connecticut performing artists, spur the creation of new work and provide a vehicle for the premiere of new, original works at the festival. We award grants and a slot in the following festival to applicants who use the proceeds to develop new work and debut it at the festival.
In light of the devastation that the COVID-19 crisis has wreaked on performers’ incomes, we’re increasing the number of awards in 2020 to six and the total in grant funding to $15,000—thanks to the incredible generosity of festival supporters who donated through the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven’s Great Give and made private contributions. In 2018, we gave two awards totaling $5,000.
Important: these are artistic/creativity awards, not income relief grants. You do not need to show that you have lost income because of the coronavirus in order to qualify.
There will be six 2020 Artists’ Awards in music, drama, dance and spoken word. At least one award will be given in each genre. Online applications will be accepted until July 31, 2020. Get full details here.
To qualify, you must be a professional artist (or group) and live in Connecticut, use the grant to create new work or complete work that is already in progress, and premiere it at the next Guilford Performing Arts Festival, which is scheduled for September 23-26, 2021.
If you’re on our performer email list, we’ll automatically notify you before applications open. If you’re not on our list, sign up using the Stay Informed! contact form on this page or send an email to Peter Hawes, festival vice chairman and head of programming.
