Noah Baerman
2018 Award Winner

Susan Cinoman
2018 Award Winner

The Guilford Performing Arts Festival Artists’ Awards program, with the support of the Guilford Foundation, encourages the creation of new work by Connecticut artists. The competition awards $2,500 and a slot in the following festival to applicants who use the proceeds to develop new work and debut it at the festival.

We were able to offer two awards in 2018, in Music and Drama.

Playwright/screenwriter Susan Cinoman of Woodbridge was our winner in Drama. She’ll debut her comedic play “Guenevere” with a staged reading at the September 2019 festival. Pianist/composer Noah Baerman of Middletown, our Music winner, will premiere “Cliff Palace,” an extended composition performed by Baerman’s jazz ensemble.

The next Artists’ Awards competition will be held in spring 2020 for work to be performed at the 2021 festival. To qualify, applicants must be professional artists and live in Connecticut. If you’re interested in applying, check back in May 2020 to use our online application. If you’re on our performer email list, we’ll automatically notify you when applications open. If you’re not on our list, sign up using our online contact form or send an email to Peter Hawes, festival vice chairman and head of programming.
